3 Destinations for Unforgettable Holidays in Italy

In recent years, we have accompanied several groups throughout Italy and have discovered true treasures off the beaten path that have truly enchanted us. Today we share with you three destination ideas for unforgettable holidays in Italy.

Still undecided on your next destination? Whether you are a nature lover, a gastronomy enthusiast, or a history and culture aficionado, the three Italian regions we are about to propose will undoubtedly captivate you.

Le Marche, between sea and hills

Have you ever heard of the Marche region in Italy? For a holiday rich in swimming and authentic discoveries, the Marche region is an ideal choice. Located between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, this region little known to foreign tourists offers an enchanting mix of coastal landscapes, sunny hills, and picturesque small villages. For those who love relaxation and swimming, head to the crystal-clear waters of the Conero Nature Park. This park offers spectacular landscapes with its steep cliffs plunging into the Adriatic Sea and its pebble beaches with clear waters. The hiking trails pass through Mediterranean forests of pines, succulent plants, and flowers, revealing spectacular viewpoints with plunging access to the clear blue sea.

You will find very beautiful wild beaches where the sea merges with the sky. Do not overlook the hinterland, which consists of rolling landscapes of golden hills stretching under a lazy sun, home to small picturesque medieval villages. Some of these villages offer magnificent and romantic views of the Sibillini Mountains. Among the villages to visit, do not miss Montefiore dell’Aso, an incredibly charming small village where we ate the best ravioli at the village square restaurant, or Ascoli Piceno with its central square, reputed to be one of the most beautiful in Italy. And Italy would not be Italy without its legendary gastronomy! What is the specialty to taste in the Marche? It is the olive ascolane, stuffed and fried olives, accompanied by a glass of Verdicchio wine, a renowned white wine from the region. For the beauty of its landscapes, its clear sea, and the richness of its heritage, the Marche region is a destination not to be missed on your next trip to Italy.

Umbria, a holiday between nature and gastronomy

If you are looking for an Italian holiday where nature and gastronomy harmoniously meet, Umbria is the ideal destination. Nicknamed “the green heart of Italy“, Umbria is a wild and mystical region surrounded by lush green hills where it is pleasant to stroll. You will discover small characteristic villages where time seems to have stood still, as well as a rich gastronomy, world-renowned for its wines, charcuterie, truffle-based dishes, and cheeses.

For a fully rejuvenating holiday immersed in nature, Umbria offers numerous hiking trails through its incredible hills. Around a corner, you may discover a small ancient chapel, the ruins of an ancient castle, and other hidden treasures. Umbria also has the fourth largest lake in Italy, Lake Trasimeno, where you can swim in its clear waters and enjoy various water activities. When the heat subsides a bit, explore its numerous small medieval villages perched on hills and end the day with a good aperitif in the village square. For an ultra-gourmet and cultural stop, visit Gubbio or Norcia to taste homemade pasta accompanied by black or white truffles, fine charcuterie, and regional wines.

The Dolomites, a breath of fresh air

The Dolomites, mountains whose name evokes so many wonders, are a dream destination for hiking, nature, and mountain enthusiasts. We particularly love South Tyrol; the region offers majestic landscapes and turquoise lakes worthy of the most beautiful romantic films. The spectacular beauty of the Dolomite mountains is breathtaking. Cortina d’Ampezzo, a magnificent village, is the ideal starting point for many hikes. The most famous and emblematic is that of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, three majestic peaks that symbolize the Dolomites.

The loop around the Tre Cime offers grandiose panoramas at every turn. Do not miss the hike to Passo Giau either, an extraordinary place where the gaze is lost to infinity, surrounded by a multitude of peaks. The 360° panorama there is breathtaking. Also enjoy the lakes with enchanting scenery like Lake Braies or Lake Lago di Dobbiaco for a boat or pedal boat ride. These bodies of water offer an idyllic setting to relax and recharge. The Dolomites are also renowned for their gastronomy. You must absolutely try local specialties such as polenta, canederli (traditional bread dumplings), and speck, not to mention delicious pastries like apple strudel.
